There is plenty of buzz coming out of last week's Poker Players Alliance Washington Fly-In. While the PPA worked hard to lobby various Congressmen and women into legalizing poker online, under the radar many of those in attendance discussed what a pleasure it was to have met with 2008 US Presidential hopeful Ron Paul.
On the über popular poker forum Two Plus Two those who attended the fly-in spoke highly of Dr. Paul.
"I met Ron Paul last week. He's a great guy in person, and he's on our side (and on the side of freedom)," expressed one forum member by the name of TheEngineer. "He had his picture taken with Dr. Paul and a handful of professional poker players in attendance."

Absolute Poker fallout far from over
In the wake of the super-user account scandal, concerns about Absolute Poker continue to arise. Recently one of the site's sponsored pros addressed them, and in other news, a PR company hired by Absolute has come forward with allegations of nonpayment against the site.
Absolute's sponsored pros have for the most part remained mum about the super-user brouhaha. Neither 1989 World Champion Phil Hellmuth nor Annie Duke (both affiliated with sister site Ultimate Bet) has made any statements.
Fellow professional Mark Seif, however, has been quite open about the issue, blogging extensively about it and videotaping an interview on it for RawVegas.tv last Friday.
The 7½-minute interview in which Seif frankly aired his thoughts and concerns has caused a bit of controversy as well.
Seif (who has been sponsored by Absolute Poker since 2004) spoke about the situation at Absolute and gave his opinions on the damage-control tactics the site used. Seif stated that Absolute is "erring on the side of overcompensating" players who may have been victims of the scandal.

Poker faces weak hand
Poker players who descended on Capitol Hill last week face long odds in trying to convince Congress to legalize playing the card game on the Internet.
But one wild card could force Washington's hand: an international trade dispute with Antigua over online gambling that could end up leaving the U.S. on the hook for billions of dollars.
The WTO recently ruled that the U.S. violated its international treaty commitments by going after offshore online gambling outfits without cracking down on American operators offering remote betting on horse and dog racing.
After the ruling, Washington said it would remove Internet gambling from its WTO treaty obligations. That raised the ire of such allies as Europe and Japan, which filed separate compensation claims against the USA.

2 men get probation in video gambling
Poker machines were housed in Goose Creek parlor
It was the modern equivalent of a Goose Creek speak-easy. But if you got inside, it wasn't to drink bathtub gin; it was to play illegal games of video gambling.
For 10 months, from April 2006 to February 2007, the site operated around the clock, seven days a week, until authorities made the bust. Faces known to the operators were the only ones buzzed inside.
A dumpster is nearly full of approximately fifty dismantled poker machine cabinets (at SLED facility in Columbia), like the ones confiscated at an outlaw video poker parlor off Red Bank Road in February of 2007.
